Description

Lead oxide is a group of inorganic compounds with formulas including lead (Pb) and oxygen (O), its chemical formula is PbO, commonly known as lead yellow, yellow Dan and Mito. Lead oxide exists in two crystalline modifications: red tetragonal (α-PbO) and yellow orthorhombic (β-PbO). Lead oxide contains glasses are technologically important and are potential candidates for making electron multipliers, ultra-low loss wave guides, glass-to-metal seals, IR transmitting devices and optical gratings. PbO is an amphoteric oxide, can react with acid and with alkali, insoluble in water and ethanol, but soluble in nitric acid and acetic acid. It is a pale yellow crystalline powder at normal temperature and widely used in paints and coatings industry.
